Hop aboard a double-decker bus for CitySights NY’s Brooklyn Tour, a hop on/hop off journey through the city’s most populated borough. Many people who visit the city never set foot outside of Manhattan. But that would mean you’d miss some wonderful treasures so close by. And this newly expanded tour includes many wonders, allowing you to get off at any stop and grab a bite or see the sites in person. You’ll start in downtown Manhattan, crossing the Manhattan Bridge into Brooklyn, where you’ll see the first parkway for cars ever built in the U.S., the majesty of Grand Army Plaza, the Brooklyn Botanical Garden and Brooklyn Museum (a Beaux-Arts building with a vast art and Egyptian antiquities collection), along with the graceful mansions, intriguing shops and restaurants and a wide array of cultures. Welcome to the Bronx! Once you hop on (and hop off) this uniquely narrated trip through Upper Manhattan and the Bronx, you’re in for a sightseeing excursion aboard a double-decker bus like no other. You’ll start in Harlem, where you’ll see the famed Harlem Market, where up to 100 vendors from a wide range of African countries sell their wares. Then it’s across 125th Street and over into the Bronx, the fourth-largest Manhattan borough in terms of land area. Here, you’ll see the Grand Concourse, the elegant boulevard that lured millions to make their homes nearby, including Edgar Allan Poe. Next, you’ll head west to the famed new Yankee Stadium, opened at the beginning of the 2009 baseball season. This state-of-the-art facility can be toured with a Yankee legend as an add-on CitySights tour, but even from the outside, it’s incredibly impressive. After all, it’s the home of the team that’s won 27 World Series championships. And you’ll end back in Harlem, for even more sites – and memories.

If you want to know how New York became New York, look no further than the top of Museum Mile. As the city’s official museum, the Museum of the City of New York celebrates the greatest city in the world through exhibitions and programs that reflect New York’s distinctive character, especially its heritage of diversity, opportunity, and perpetual transformation.

Founded in 1923, the City Museum presents ongoing and temporary exhibitions drawn from its collection of 750,000 objects, including prints, photographs, decorative arts, costumes, paintings, sculpture, toys, and theatrical memorabilia. Exhibitions on extended view include Activist New York, which presents the passions and conflicts that underlie the city’s history of protest, as well as Gilded New York, which showcases lavish costumes, jewelry, and decorative objects from New York’s original one percent—the city’s elite class of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Every year, the City Museum presents five to ten temporary exhibitions that explore diverse topics that are unique to New York, such as graffiti art (City As Canvas, February – September, 2014), Superstorm Sandy (Rising Waters, October, 2013 – April, 2014), and New York apartment living in the 21st century (Making Room, January – September 2013.) Free guided gallery tours and family self-guides are available on site. Finally, no trip to the Big Apple is complete without Timescapes, a multimedia film on view at all times that tells the history of New York City—from its settlement by the Dutch to its present-day status as the capital of the world—in just 22 minutes.

The City Museum is located at 1220 Fifth Avenue at 103rd Street in Manhattan. The City Museum is open daily, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Your CitySights Pass entitles you to entry to all of the Museum’s exhibitions.

Free New York Breakfast with CitySights Pass

CitySights Pass holders are invited to start their day with a New York breakfast of champions - coffee, a fresh bagel from H&H Midtown Bagels East, and a schmear, and a side of New York City history at the City Museum. With your CitySights pass, you'll be treated to a complimentary breakfast and a 20-minute talk about what makes New York tick plus insider tips to know about the Big Apple. The breakfast concludes with an exclusive screening of Timescapes. New York Breakfast takes place daily between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. at the City museum.

*The Museum of the City of New York will close at 2:00pm on December 9th, 2014.

New York's famous Empire State Building, a New York City Landmark and a National Historic Landmark, soars more than a quarter of a mile into the atmosphere above the heart of Manhattan. The Observatory located on the 86th floor, 1,050 feet (320 meters) above the city's bustling streets, offers panoramic views from within a glass enclosed pavilion and from the surrounding open-air promenade. Since the Observatory opened to the public in 1931, almost 110 million visitors have thrilled to the awe-inspiring vision of the city beneath them. Due to its ionic status, long lines are very common, pre-purchasing your tickets is highly recommended to avoid those long lines. Get your tickets today.

Sure, it’s one thing to gaze up at New York City’s majestic skyscrapers from the street. But it’s quite another to look down from on high. And that’s exactly what you’ll do at the Top of the Rock Observation Deck. Your visit begins when you step inside a glass-ceiling elevator that whisks you up into the air, high above Rockefeller Center. Located on the three separate floors, Top of the Rock offers two different kinds of viewing experiences: from the 67th and 69th floors, you’ll gaze at the sweeping vistas from behind safety glass, and then on the 70th floor, you’ll enter an open-air terrace with astonishing, 360-degree views. Open from 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, Top of the Rock is magical whenever you visit. During the day, you’ll get sensational views of the whole city. And then at night, New York City really comes alive, with its twinkling lights and knockout panoramas. The main entrance is located on 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, near lots of exciting shopping, dining and sightseeing hot spots.

Currently Top of the Rock Observation Deck is experiencing extremely high volume days. We recommend that you bring your Gray Line New York voucher over to Top of the Rock and reserve your ideal day and time for your visit. This way you are guaranteed upon returning that you will get to enter and enjoy this amazing attraction at the time and on the day of your choice.
