Remember Those We Lost by Visiting the 911 Tribute Center

There are hundreds of amazing sights to see in New York City, but every visitor must experience the reverence and wonder of the 911 Tribute Center at least once during their lifetime. This amazing and awe-inspiring center features a variety of exhibits that are designed to remember and honor those whose lives were lost and those who fought to save lives. The 911 Tribute Center is located on Liberty Street in downtown Manhattan, and it is a site you won’t want to miss during your upcoming tour of New York City.

The 911 Tribute Center

The tragic events of September 11, 2001 will remain with us forever. Many people recall exactly where they were on that fateful day but none so much as those in and around the trade centers that morning. In an effort to remember and to heal, the September 11th Families’ Association created the 911 Tribute Center in honor of those lost on that terrible day. Their goal is to never forget the pain and sacrifice of that day while, at the same time, fostering healing and hope for the future.

Each of the over 600 people trained as tour guides for the tribute center has a personal connection to the attacks. They are first responders, family members of the lost, civilians who volunteered in the aftermath, and many of them are survivors who managed to escape the towers as they collapsed around them. Each of these people has a story to tell and will share it with you as they lead you through the various galleries, exhibits, and educational offerings of the 911 Tribute Center. Some of the touching exhibits include: The Attacks, World Trade Center Community, Those Lost, Recovery, The Future and Healing.

Within these galleries and exhibits you will learn of the devastating impact the assault had on the world trade center community, and you will interact with a timeline of the attacks. Through videos and images you will come to understand the scope of recovery efforts, and you will come face to face with the human cost of terrorism in the portraits of those who did not survive the buildings’ collapse. From there, your guide will lead you to the tributes gallery which is filled with messages from around the world that still continue to inspire peace and promote healing. At last, you will see a mural of the growing and changing Manhattan skyline that invokes hope for the future of Manhattan, New York City and the United States.
