Start Your Exploration at the Museum of the City of New York

Your visit to New York City can have an exciting and informative start to your sight-seeing checklist with a stop to the Museum of the City of New York. As the official museum of the city, this building allows you to acquaint yourself with the history and foundation of the nation’s largest city. Enjoy varied exhibitions that explore its diverse cultures, boundless creativity, and the people past and present who’ve come to settle here from all over the world.

Discover the Melting Pot

Founded nearly 100 years ago, the Museum of the City of New York creates several special exhibits each year that run for a few months at a time. Permanent features include Timescapes, an engrossing 22-minute film that traces the growth of the city from a settlement of a few hundred Europeans, Africans, and Native Americans to its present status as one of the world’s great cities. Narrated by award-winning actor Stanley Tucci, the film features maps, photographs, prints, and paintings from the Museum’s collections.

Even the stairway is fun and informative at the Museum. Come see and experience ‘City Steps,’ which will take you from floor to floor. Quotations about New York from notable people escort you upstairs, including sayings by John Adams, Walt Whitman, Thomas Jefferson, Leon Trotsky, E.B. White, and others, are accompanied by images from the museum’s collection.

Immerse Yourself in History

Be sure to stop by some of the other permanent installments, such as the collection of late 19th and early 20th Century clothing, jewelry and portraiture amassed by the city’s elite during the gilded age. See how barons of industry such as Vanderbilt and Gould competed to show their wealth by spending lavishly and publicly.

For a view of the opposite side of the social coin, check out the Activist New York exhibition, which chronicles the long history of protests and change-making that still is evident in the streets of the city today. Never has agitation seemed as interesting as when displayed with signs, photos and artifacts from different causes and eras of activism during the evolution of the city. The historic efforts of residents in all five boroughs will inspire you with their passion for change.

Great Way To See The Sights!

(Reviewed on 6/13/2016) -

"Loved the ability to hop on and off the buss at interesting sights across the city. Then when we were done visiting, we would wait for the next bus to continue our tour. I thought the tour was a great value, we used it both days of our trip! "

Visite n'a pas déçu

(Reviewed on 11/2/2015) -

"Nous étions à New York en septembre. Nous avons visité la ville grâce aux bus Hop-on Hop-off durant 2 jours. Les agents sont très à l’écoute. Les tours permettent de tout voir. Nous n’avons pas été déçus. C’était génial."

Amazing Tour: Great way to See NYC

(Reviewed on 10/16/2015) -

"If you want to see all the sights of New York City both uptown and downtown, that's the tour to choose. They have excellent guides, cover all the areas, and you have lots of time to hop on and off."

GOOD SERVICE, BUT NOT AT ALL WITH GUIDES

(Reviewed on 7/13/2015) -

"I think your service is good, but several times guides are so angry and have no good treatment to people, until you leave the bus, when they smiling ask for a tip"

Best money I spent all weekend!

(Reviewed on 7/12/2015) -

"This is the greatest way to travel around the city! I feel a lot safer riding on the bus than I do in the taxis. Being able to hop on and off at your leisure is perfect. Even if you just need to go to the next stop or are going way across the city. I was always able to find a seat and the tour guides are very interesting to listen to. I will do this every time we come to the city!"

Best tour ever

(Reviewed on 6/18/2015) -

"This was the best value for our money we found this tour online and it had great reviews. The only complaint that I had was that we didn't know that if we did the all around tour and got off in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium it would be over 90 minutes until the bus made the loop and came back again. It was a great and very informative tour - we did it at the end of June in 2014 and LOVED IT and would do it again in a minute!"

awesome!!!!!

(Reviewed on 5/13/2015) -

"Every single trip I take to NYC I use this very outstanding bus company. It's the most cost efficient way to go. The tour guides are friendly and very entertaining. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"

Supportive staff

(Reviewed on 5/7/2015) -

"I along with my wife from India went on a 2 days City Sights NYC tour, our first visit to NYC and it just surprised me with all the services I received at a very low price. We enjoyed a lot and City Sights tour guides on all hop on hop off buses including drivers were very supportive. We had a wonderful weekend in NYC and will remain in our memories. Thanks a lot City Sights. We would love to take your services again.
"

WOW!

(Reviewed on 1/14/2015) -

"Wow is the right word for this trip! Very thrilling to know the city. It feels different once you are there for real. Learned a lot from the guy who knows it all (who was the guide btw.)! I highly recommend walking around upper NYC. Food‘s great if I may add!"

All – In

(Reviewed on 12/17/2014) -

"This tour has it all! From Brooklyn to Downtown NY, everything is fascinating! What I love most about this trip was time spent in Brooklyn. The guide was very clear in providing information to us. "
